Der Facharzt für Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie untersucht Wechselwirkungen zwischen Körper und Seele und behandelt durch seelische Vorgänge verursachte körperliche Krankheiten. Dies geschieht vor allem durch die auf Gesprächen und Verhaltensübungen basierende Psychotherapie. Sie kann ambulant oder - in Fällen geringer psychischer Stabilität - stationär durchgeführt werden.
