Der Facharzt für Innere Medizin (auch "Internist") befasst sich mit der nicht-operativen Behandlung der inneren Organe. Mögliche Schwerpunkte sind:
- Angiologie (Blut- und Lymphgefäße)
- Endokrinologie (Hormonsystem und Stoffwechsel) und Diabetologie (auch "Diabetik", Behandlung des Diabetes mellitus)
- Gastroenterologie (Verdauungsorgane)
- Hämatologie (Blut und blutbildende Organe) und Onkologie (Krebserkrankungen)
- Kardiologie (Herz und Kreislauf)
- Nephrologie (Niere)
- Pneumologie (Lunge und Bronchien)
- Rheumatologie (rheumatische Erkrankungen)
Internisten können als Fach- oder Hausärzte tätig sein.
Ausbildung: Medizinstudium + fünfjährige Weiterbildung
